Understanding Why I Haven’t Been Writing Much
Although writing isn’t new to me, I still find myself struggling with the dreaded feeling of a creative roadblock. Periodically, my mind becomes cluttered with a jumble of thoughts that make it hard to put together a cohesive narrative. Blank pages seem overwhelming, and I become my worst critic.
Perfectionism has proven itself to be my greatest hindrance rather than my biggest motivator, and I have learned it is one of many factors that contribute to my struggle with writer’s block.
I never know how long my motivation will be under construction. The truth is that it doesn’t matter if you’re a seasoned professional or a novice writer, writer’s block can strike anyone at any time.
If you are a writer, perhaps you are familiar with writer’s block.
Writer’s block can look like this —
- You stare for hours at a blank page and make no progress.
- You find tedious things to do to avoid writing.
- You experience brain fog that you can’t seem to lift.
- You erase everything you wrote before finishing the first draft.
- You avoid creative decisions.
